Dumont paying December bills in January of the next year is hardly “corruption” or "fiscal mismanagement". For the past 30 years, this has been the accounting procedure throughout a multitude of bi-partisan mayors, councils and auditors. Fact is, 12 months of bills were always charged to 12 months of budgets. Not only is it not “corruption, it is hardly the fault of the prior administration, nor is this Democrat slant towards "corruption” unique to our town.
Similar to the way we pay our personal bills; December bills received in January were always paid and charged to January. When the Democrats knew their budget was in trouble toward the latter part of 2004, they staged our town as their political playground and cast anyone and every one, including town vendors, to win at all costs. Is it pure coincidence that this just so happens to resemble an issue when the current county political boss was Dumont’s finance chairman years ago?
If the Dumont Democrats want to blame someone, they
should take a good hard look in the mirror. Paying bills from
one year in the next year occurred even way back in the late 1970’s.
The Democrats conveniently forget that none other than their
current Democrat County Chairman boss apparently did this when
he served as a Dumont councilman. During 1978, this very same
political boss of today, overspent his budget by over $250,000
when he was Dumont’s finance chairman. His over-expenditure was
paid in the next year. Now almost 30 years later, can you
imagine what $250,000 in 1978 would be in today’s dollars? Back
in 1978, he blamed the auditor and was quoted then as saying the
auditor was “fully responsible”. However, in total contrast to
the 1978 antics played by the very same person who is their
political boss today, Dumont’s Democrats now conveniently
hide the auditor and chief financial officer.
Want to take a guess just who our auditor was for all
of our years until 2005? It is the very same Democrat auditor
who surely must have their confidence since his firm has been
appointed as county auditors. It gets even better.
While this auditor continues as one of the most predominant
Democratic appointees, he allegedly is the personal accountant
to the Democratic County boss himself.
It is also interesting that the accounting firms of both our previous and current auditors remain among the highest Democratic contributors in the state. While the Dumont Democrats were casting their "smoke and mirrors" about Dumont's supposed financial conditions, what they actually did behind the scenes is simply switch auditors between two towns that they control. That's right! Dumont's auditor went to Elmwood Park where they serve to this day and Elmwood Park's auditor was placed in Dumont where they also serve to this day.
Want to venture another guess as to who our certified Chief Financial Officer was during most of the very same time? If you guessed another Democrat- you are right! That person was not only our Chief Financial Officer, he was, and still is, a director for one of our county’s biggest departments. Did either of these two state certified professionals ever say anything was wrong – absolutely not! Did Moody’s municipal rating services ever say anything was wrong – again, absolutely not!
