Dumont Chamber of Commerce Takeover ???

Probably since its' inception, the Borough of Dumont has always appointed Council liaisons every year in January. Such liaisons, appointed by the Mayor and Council, assist to facilitate communication not only to the Chamber of Commerce, but also to the Board of Education as well as every Borough Department and outside agencies.

How many of us were shocked to read Dumont Democratic Councilwoman Ellen Zamechansky's Letter-to-the-Editor in the October 8th, 2008 edition of the Twin Boro News? As scandalous as the actions taken by the Mayor and Council appear, her letter is yet another classic example of how the Dumont Democrats attempt to spin lies and inaccuracies upon our public when they get caught at what they did, or tried to do.

Taken direct from her letter:

"Eight applications were submitted to chamber President Carmine DeMarco and included the mayor and council, along with Borough Administrator John Perkins. One personal check signed by myself, which included the application fees for all eight applications, was submitted as a matter of convenience for the chamber treasurer. At no time was it discussed, nor decided, that public funds would be used, but instead our own personal money was submitted with the applications.

No matter how she desperately tries to spin their appalling actions, can anyone possibly be led to believe that their exposed actions were anything but how they appear - an overt attempt by Dumont's Mayor and Council to take over our local Chamber of Commerce.

Let's face it. Eight votes can certainly stack any election or decision in a Chamber of Commerce of our size !!!

There have been endless reports on the Democrats' flagrant and outright arrogant abuse of our taxpayers with their "pay to play" rewards to their political contributors. All of us know of the indictments and arrest of the Dumont Democrats political boss, Joe Ferriero. With all of the reporting and heavy criticism as to how they conduct their campaign coffer business, does anyone actually believe that had their plan to take over the Chamber not been made public, that our taxpayers would not have ended up paying for their memberships somehow? Do you really believe that Zamechansky was just being generous in using her personal money to pay for all eight memberships?

Bottom line is that none of them are local businesses. Given the devious actions of our Democratic Mayor and Council, not only is their judgement and actions to be severely criticized, but their motives are extremely suspect. Each and every one of them, our Mayor and all 6 Democratic Council members, including our Borough Administrator went along with this manipulative plan.

With the way Dumont's taxes have risen almost 60% over the past 4 years, do the Democrats now want us to believe that they can run our local Dumont businesses better. Naw, it couldn't be a new way for them to funnel money back into their campaign coffers, or could it?
