Can anyone forget the obscene amount of money believed to have been spent by Joe Ferriero and the Bergen County Democrats at the Borgata in Atlantic City during the New Jersey League of Municipalities Convention in 2007?

     The lavish open bar party at the Borgata's Mur Mur club billed as the Bergen Democrats Bacchanal-at-the-Borgata was exposed within the Bergen Record's "Bergen Dems show they can throw a party.  But who paid?" 

     True to character prior to his arrest and conviction on Federal corruption charges,  Ferriero had the arrogant audacity to state "You won't be finding it (the costs) on any (campaign finance) report".

     A little over a year later in 2009, Ferriero was shown the door as Chairman of the Bergen County Democratic Organization following his Federal corruption convictions, but his "puppet" Director of the BCDO was, and still is, Dumont's Mayor Matt McHale.

     Sadly, in 2009 and continuing into 2010, we are living through such severely distressed economic conditions, the likes of which have not been seen in decades.  Record unemployment and massive foreclosures seem to have no end in sight.  So many are struggling to keep their homes.  Even paying for their family's bare essentials is so arduous for many more that doing so leaves them with their only sense of accomplishment during these times.   

     Such economic realities upon us, the media reported that almost every town has curtailed spending in all ways possible.  As reported, most towns scaled back substantially or even eliminated the monies typically spent for their elected and appointed officials to attend the 2009 New Jersey League of Municipalities Convention in Atlantic City.  As reported, some towns required their attendees to pay their own way.  Some would only pay hotel room charges leaving meals, parties and transportation to be personally paid by their attendees.  Some others actually opted out of attending all together so as to avoid any criticism whatsoever.
